Digital avatars were meant to be impartial mediators, but their failure sparked a crisis of trust. 'Echo Chambers Unchained' explores this collapse. The project presents a decentralized reputation network—'Veritas Nodes.' Users vouch for each other's trustworthiness based on real-world interactions, confirmed with blockchain. This network presents a human-centered alternative, emphasizing verifiable trust scores and promoting the value of actual human connection, against digital mediation.
The world is fractured. Online spaces are battlegrounds of mistrust, manipulated by AI. Communities huddle in localized networks, prioritizing face-to-face interactions. Digital infrastructure is unreliable, and vital information is often verified through physical meetups. Public spaces reflect a blend of high-tech decay and DIY resilience. Trust is a precious commodity, carefully cultivated, earned and highly valued.
This project matters because our reliance on flawed technology is eroding trust. Current AI interventions are vulnerable. We must question whether technology solves our problems or masks their source by exploring alternative ways to verify information and build real relationships.
Kowalski draws inspiration from the intensity of sports and the resistance of subcultures. Polish underground art and activism inform their critique of power structures. The process began with deep research into AI ethics, digital rights and collapse of trust in the digital system. This, combined with exploring multiple 'what if' scenarios, led to 'Veritas Nodes'. The design emphasizes how direct human interaction can counteract the failures of system.
