In a world where digital solutions have crumbled, rediscover the power of human connection and ancestral wisdom. This project unveils a community-driven response to the failure of AI-dependent mental health systems. A philosophical satire on our over-reliance on technology, showcasing how ancient knowledge systems can be a source of resilience and healing. Ponder are we truly ready for the promise of these complex systems and how can we build better systems?. This artifact offers a tangible path toward reclaiming agency over our collective well-being.
The world is fractured. Global digital networks, once promising seamless connection and support, have become unreliable, riddled with outages and misinformation. Rural communities, initially marginalized, now leverage their inherent adaptability. Traditional knowledge systems, once overshadowed by technological solutions, experience a renaissance. Close-knit communities emphasize mutual aid, sharing resources and skills honed over generations to build a tangible alternative to a collapsed digital infrastructure. Trust is placed in the tangible, the local, and the human.
This project is a mirror to our present. Examine the fragile balance between technology and community. We blindly trust nascent tech, ignoring timeless wisdom. Consider the current trajectory of over-reliance on centralized digital solutions for essential human needs. What will take it's place if they fail?
Drawing inspiration from sustainability movements and philosophical inquiries, Okoro's work is deeply influenced by the resourcefulness of rural Nigerian communities. Informed by subversive folktales and ideas around communal well-being, the project emerges from a detailed iterative process. Starting from rigorous research into societal inequities and the ethical collapse of AI wellness frameworks. Okoro developed speculative scenarios and then designed artifacts that prompt a re-evaluation of ingrained thinking. This 'Resilience Seed Bank' theoretically tests the ideas through critiquing and refining the design that resulted from thought experiments.
